As one of the oldest and largest Celtic Faire's in California, this event has it all - from research clans to bag pipe bands..music, crafts demonstrations and activities for families, children and adults. Every year, the Sonora Celtic Faire brings some of the biggest names in Celtic music to the Mother Lode. For 2010, Needfire and Sligo Rags and Molly's Revenge will be heading up the main stage. Perennial favorites Wicked Tinkers, Golden Bough, and The Black Irish Band return to the faire, along with others still to be announced. Check out the full music lineup on the website. Camp Augusta brings you the infamous BATTLE ROYALE! Stocked with a full arsenal of long swords, quarterstaves, broad swords, battle axes, short swords, morning stars, maces, javelins, lances and halberds--we cordially invite you to take on the challenge of standing with your army in the face of the enemy, and fighting in the melee of glorious battle! Worry not however, as for your protection we also offer body armor, helmets, gloves and shields--from buckler to broad--as you stare down your opponents. Multiple group combat games will be facilitated by trained swordsmen, as well as fighting lessons and tournament-style competitions. Only the strong, of heart and brawn, will survive to battle another round!! Stage Acts and Street Performers -Mountain Mischief is a favorite of children and grownups alike. For 2010 we've brought back the Knights of Mayhem, and these guys hit hard. Watch them as they warm up with games like quintain and rings, then on to the main event where they're hitting to unhorse each other. If you want to shop, this is the place to do it. To look your best you can find jewelry, mens and womens clothing, and swords and armor. Enjoying the music? There are vendors selling music and others selling musical instruments. Want to research your past? You can do that too, and get a framed, historically accurate coat of arms. With over 80 food and craft vendors, whatever you're looking for, chances are someone's selling it. Step through time in the Celtic Living History area. Dozens of groups portray times from 50BC through the 18th century. Feel the Earth shake as a cannon files, and imagine charging into battle those hundreds of years ago. For the more peaceful, watch a day in the life of a Scottish household during renaissance times. The Great Whiskey Tasting Competition has become an annual favorite. Taste 10 types of whiskey and vote on your favorites - votes are tallied to settle once and for all (hah!), the best tasting whiskey in the world!
