The 23rd annual Fairmont Farmers Festival will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2009. Plenty of activities are planned for this year's festival including a pageant, golf tournament, parade, various entertainment, arts and crafts, an antique car show and sound off, civil war reenactment and lots of food. The Fairmont Farmers Festival Pageant will be held on Saturday, October 10 and will crown six queens and three ambassadors. The pageant will begin at 3:00 p.m. for the titles of Wee, Little and Tiny Miss and 6:30 p.m. for the titles of Junior, Teen and Miss. The pageant will be held at the E.R. Gause Auditorium at Rosenwald Elementary School in Fairmont. The Fairmont Chamber of Commerce is hosting the second annual Farmers Festival Golf Tournament at Fairmont Golf Club on Friday, October 16. The format is 4-man Captain's Choice and there will be a shotgun start at 1:00 p.m. The entry fee is $60 per player and includes cart and green fee, mulligan, red tee, dinner, range balls, prizes, and the concert following the golf tournament featuring Mark Roberts and Breeze at 6:00 p.m. For more information, contact Fairmont Golf Club, 628-9933 or Chamber President Kelly Johnson, 628-6311. The Festival kicks off on the 17th with the parade at 10:00 a.m. There will be several Shriner groups, marching bands, and plenty of beautiful queens including Miss North Carolina. Following the parade, you can eat lunch from a variety of different food vendors, browse the multitude of jewelry and crafts in the arts and crafts section or admire all the shiny cars and tractors at the Car Show. There will also be plenty of musical entertainment including groups performing rap, rock, gospel and country music. Concluding the festival will be a dance at the Southeastern NC Agricultural Center in Lumberton beginning at 9:00 p.m. The awesome Pizazz Band will be performing. Tickets are $12.00 in advance and $15.00 at the door. Another major event for this year's festival is the Civil War Reenactment ?Raid on Ashpole? to be held on Saturday, October 17 and Sunday, October 18. This event is sponsored by the Harrington Light Artillery and the North Carolina Artillery Association. The Civil War camp will be located in the Fairmont Community Park and will open to the public at 10:00 a.m. The battle will be located across the street from the park next to the canal. The battle begins at 2:00 p.m. on both days and will last anywhere from thirty to forty-five minutes.
